Dr. Mundzir Abdullah is currently a lecturer in Institute of Nano Optoelectronics Research and Technology (INOR), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). His research work revolves around wide areas of photonics ranging from nonlinear optics, laser material processing, nanomaterials synthesized by laser ablation, optical emission spectroscopy, fiber optics sensors, and high-speed laser imaging. He has published more than 30 articles in the international journals and 3 books. He also active participant of Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX), bagging a total of 2 Gold medal, 1 Bronze medal.

He was formerly a Postdoctorate Research Fellow in Laser Center, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Dr Mundzir graduated PhD (Physics) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2015 at the age of 23 years and 5 months. Under the supervision of Prof. Dr Noriah Bidin a renowned professor of in the field of laser, he got A Grade for his Viva, Graduate on Time (GOT), a Merit Award for his thesis. He is awarded the “Outstanding Individual Award- Young Achievers Category” by The Malaysia Book of Records as “The youngest PhD Holder in Malaysia” in the same year.

He has been invited as a Plenary Speaker in Laser Technology & Optics Symposium (LATOS 2015), Johor Bahru, Malaysia in 2015. He also received invitation as an invited speaker for 1st Symposium of Optical Fiber Laser Technology 2018 (SopFLAT 2018), in Batu Pahat, Johor.
