A special talk by Dr Kamarulazizi Ibrahim, CEO at Guide Consultancy Sdn Bhd entitled "GaN a Disruptive LED Material Innovation: Potential vs Reality" was successfully organized by the Institute of Nano Optoelectronics Research and Technology (INOR), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) at Auditorium Murad Mohd Noor, SAINS@USM. Dr Kamarulazizi was a former professor in INOR and the first Director of INOR.
The main aim of this talk was to give exposure to our students with the Gallium Nitride (GaN) based technology, which has been widely used in solid-state lighting and semiconductor devices. In beginning of the talk, Dr Kamarulazizi shared several important information about the history of GaN and its advantages. He then talks about the GaN known issues, and few recent discoveries that help to cater some of the issues. The event ended with some refreshments for the attendees outside of the hall.
