Ts. Dr. Hj. Mohd Nazri Hj. Abd Rahman is a Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Nano Optoelectronics Research and Technology (INOR), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). He is a registered Professional Technologist (Ts.) in Material Science Technology under the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT), with academic and industrial experience in semiconductor materials, epitaxial growth, thin-film deposition, and optoelectronic device fabrication.
He obtained his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Malaya. His postgraduate research focused on GaN-on-silicon epitaxy for high-electron-mobility transistor applications and low-temperature growth of high-quality AlN epilayers for ultraviolet LEDs using pulsed atomic-layer epitaxy. His PhD research was supported by ams OSRAM.
Prior to joining USM, he gained industry experience as a Process Engineer, Patent Engineer, semiconductor consultant, and later as a Staff Epitaxial Process Engineer at ams OSRAM Opto Semiconductors. He also completed a seven-month visiting-researcher attachment at the University of California, Santa Barbara through the CREST–UCSB Technology Transfer Training Programme, with training in blue-LED epitaxy and fabrication under Professor Shuji Nakamura.
His current research interests include III-nitride semiconductor materials—particularly GaN, AlN, InGaN, and AlGaN—together with epitaxial-process optimisation, thin-film deposition and characterisation, optoelectronic devices, and high-power/high-frequency HEMT technologies. These areas closely support INOR’s focus on III-nitride epitaxy for LEDs, solar cells, nanophotonics, power devices, and ultraviolet detectors.
