Associate Professor Dr. Ng Sha Shiong

About me

Sha Shiong, NG received his PhD degree in Condensed Matter Physics from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Malaysia. Currently, he serves as Deputy Director and Program Chair at INOR at the Institute of Nano Optoelectronics Research and Technology (INOR), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). His research focuses on metal-organic chemical vapour deposition of III-nitride semiconductor materials for light emitting, solar cells, and ultraviolet (UV) photodetector applications. He is also working on the low-cost synthesis of gallium nitride and indium nitride as well as transparent conducting gallium oxide using the sol-gel spin coating technique for optoelectronic applications. In 2018, he was a Visiting Research Scholar for 6 months at Professor Dr. Shuji Nakamura's (2014 Nobel Prize winner in Physics) Laboratory at the Solid-State Lighting & Energy Electronics Center (SSLEEC), University of California, Santa Barbara, USA.

Dr. Ng has published more than 190 research papers. His current h-index is 21. Besides, he has 4 patents (one granted and 3 filed) and published two monographs. He was the principal investigator for 2 international, 6 national, and 7 university research grants. At present, Dr. Ng serves as an Associate Editor of IEEE Photonics Technology Letters. He is also a Senior Member of Optica, an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Coating Science and Technology, and a member of the Materials Research Society, the Society for Applied Spectroscopy, and the SPIE. He is also a National Council of Professors member, a life member of the Malaysian Solid-State Science & Technology Society, and the Malaysian Institute of Physics. Dr. Ng is also a regular reviewer for many reputable journals and has reviewed over 100 papers.
